Secret ingredient?
Have you ever made homemade Chex mix? There are so many different variations out there to try. It can almost get overwhelming. This one is pretty popular. I wanted to tackle this recipe and make it myself because some recipes just aren’t spicy or bold enough. This recipe features Worcestershire sauce which isn’t typically found in a buffalo ranch Chex mix. Don’t skimp out on this, while only a little bit is used, it takes the flavor to the next level giving it a little more sweetness and makes it a little more tangy.
Cheese, cheese, and more cheese
Unlike other recipes you might see for this, I didn’t specify the amount of Parmesan cheese used because I wanted to leave this up to your discretion. Some may like a lot and others not so much. I love Parmesan in this recipe and I choose to sprinkle a little at a time being sure to stir after I add more to make sure all the pieces get some.
How long does it bake?
You’ll find that as you’re making this Chex mix, it gets wet from the oil, buffalo sauce and Worcestershire. This is going to contribute to it cooking for a pretty long time. I would say that you can expect to bake this anywhere between an hour or an hour and a half depending on how big or small the container is you’re baking in. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you’re stirring every 20 minutes. When I bake this I will only set my timer for about 20 minutes at a time and stir, then set it for another 20 minutes. Toward the end or close to an hour I’ll start trying the most seasoned pieces to make sure they’re not soggy anymore before putting them back in. When they’re pretty much done a couple pieces will still not be totally crunchy but that’s okay. I give it a good stir and let it cool, once cooled they get nice and crunchy.
I’m so excited for you to try this buffalo ranch Chex mix. If you don’t have one of the ingredients on hand, try using what you do have and make it yourself. It’s easy to make and so yummy. Now let’s get on to the recipe.
