This delicious white bean buffalo dip is baked to perfection with white beans, hot sauce, freshly grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese. It's the ultimate party dip without the chicken. Serve warm with your favorite tortilla chips, celery sticks, or other fresh veggies.
We love a good vegetarian dip around here and there are plenty to choose from like my Beirtuti hummus, paprika dip, green chile artichoke dip, and black bean feta dip. However, this easy vegetarian buffalo dip has been our go-to ever since making it for the Super Bowl.
It reminds me of a buffalo chicken dip without the chicken and with the addition of cheddar cheese. My husband who is our biggest meat eater loves this dip and didn't miss the chicken at all. It was a huge hit for our family and friends I always make a double batch.

Why You'll Love This White Bean Buffalo Dip
Big Bold Buffalo Flavor - This is the ultimate buffalo dip, there are big bold flavors all throughout especially when you use freshly grated cheddar cheese. It's spicy without being too spicy, and each bite will keep you coming back for more.
So Much Versatility - We all know the most popular way to enjoy a dip is with chips but this dip is SO versatile. I challenge you to think outside the box. Spread the dip on your favorite toasted sandwich, or wrap. You can even lighten it up by dipping with fresh veggies or pita chips.
Extremely Easy to Make - All the ingredients are added to a baking dish and baked for 30 minutes. There are no special techniques or equipment needed.
Vegetarian - This delicious dip is completely meat free (no shredded chicken) making it a great game day appetizer for anyone who's vegetarian.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
White beans - Any white bean will work in this recipe. That includes cannellini beans, navy beans, or great northern beans. The one you choose is up to your personal preference.
Cream cheese - The base of the dip making it nice and creamy. Make sure the cream cheese is softened so you can mix the white bean dip before it bakes. If you like your dip creamier feel free to add some ranch dressing, sour cream, plain greek yogurt, or even cottage cheese for added protein.
Cheddar cheese - I recommend using extra sharp cheddar cheese for bold flavor. Be sure to freshly grate the cheese for the best results. Save extra to sprinkle over the top at the end and broil to create a nice golden crust.
Mozzarella - Because you can't have enough cheese in this dip. Again freshly grated is best.
Hot sauce - Choose your favorite buffalo wing sauce for this dip. I personally recommend Frank's buffalo sauce.
Green onions - For an added fresh touch at the end.
Which White Beans Are Best?
Cannellini beans, Great Northern beans, and Navy beans share similarities as white beans but have distinct differences. Cannellini beans are larger and kidney-shaped. Great Northern beans on the other hand are slightly smaller and rounder, are less starchy with a milder taste.
Navy beans, the smallest of the three, have a dense, smooth texture. All three of these are great choices for the dip. I've made this dip with all three variations. My personal favorite is cannellini because they're the biggest. The type you choose is completely up to you!
How to Make This Vegetarian Buffalo Dip Recipe
Step 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2. In a large mixing bowl combine cream cheese, 1 cup cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and hot sauce. Stir until well combined and smooth.
Step 3. Stir in the white beans then place in the oven to bake for 30 minutes.
Step 4. Remove the dip from the oven and stir well. Top with an additional 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top. Broil on high for 5-7 minutes until a crispy and golden topping has formed. (The amount of time this takes will depend on how close your dip is to the broiler. The closer it is, the less time it will take. Watch closely to make sure it doesn’t burn)
Step 5. Garnish the creamy buffalo dip with green onion and serve immediately with your favorite chips.
Tips for The Best White Bean Buffalo Dip
Choose a Quality Buffalo Wings Sauce: There's a lot of hot sauce in this spicy buffalo dip so choose a hot sauce that you love.
Broil for a Cheesy Crust: Who doesn't love a golden brown crust over the top of their dip? My biggest tip for this is to watch as it broils. If your shallow baking dish is close to the broiler, it's going to cook fast. If it's farther away, expect to leave it in for a bit longer.
Serve Warm: This delicious dish is best served warm to loosen up the cream cheese and mozzarella and cheddar.
Stir Well: It's important to stir well before baking to distribute all the ingredients. It helps if the cream cheese is softened. Nobody wants to scoop up a big chunk of cream cheese and nothing else. If you don't think you were able to stir well before it bakes you can always stir 15 minutes into the baking process after all the ingredients have warmed. This will make it a lot easier.
Alternatively, if you want a smooth texture you can place all the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor and mix until smooth before baking the vegetarian white bean buffalo dip. You can also do this in a high speed blender.
Must Try Variations for White Bean Buffalo Dip
Blue Cheese Buffalo Bean Dip: Incorporate crumbled blue cheese crumbles into the dip for a classic pairing with Buffalo flavors.
Vegetarian Loaded Buffalo Dip: Enhance the dip with additional veggies like diced red peppers, green onions, or black olives for added texture and freshness. It creates a colorful and hearty variation.
Smoky Chipotle Buffalo Dip: Infuse a smoky element by adding chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. The smokiness complements the Buffalo heat, creating a flavorful and slightly spicy variation.
Garlic Parmesan Buffalo Bean Dip: Blend roasted garlic and freshly grated Parmesan cheese into the white bean dip for a savory and umami-packed variation. The richness of Parmesan complements the Buffalo sauce. Using different kinds of cheese is a fun way to take the white bean buffalo dip recipe to the next level
Spinach and Artichoke Buffalo Dip: Combine the flavors of a classic spinach and artichoke dip with Buffalo sauce. Add chopped spinach, artichoke hearts, and a blend of cheeses for a creamy and savory dip.
Bacon Jalapeño Buffalo Dip: Crispy bacon and diced jalapeños bring a smoky and spicy kick to the dip. The combination of savory bacon and heat from jalapeños adds depth to the Buffalo flavor.
Make This In a Slow Cooker
To make this delicious vegetarian buffalo dip in the slow cooker, start by placing all the ingredients in the slow cooker. Stir the ingredients well to ensure an even blend. Cook on low for 2-3 hours or until the mixture is heated through and the flavors meld. Top with green onions and serve immediately. This is the perfect appetizer that's low maintenance making it perfect for your next party.
Storing and Reheating
To store White Bean Buffalo Dip, transfer any leftover dip into an airtight container and refrigerate after you've let the dip cool for a bit. It can be refrigerated for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, you have a couple of options.
For small portions, the microwave is convenient; heat in short intervals, stirring in between, until warmed through. Alternatively, for larger quantities, consider reheating in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 20 minutes or until the dip reaches your desired temperature.
Stirring occasionally during reheating helps maintain a consistent texture. If the dip thickens upon reheating, you can add a small amount of Greek yogurt or cream to restore its creamy consistency.
