Pineapple slushie is the perfect drink to cool you down on a hot summer day. It's bursting with sweet pineapple and can be made in only 5 minutes. All you need is 3 ingredients and a high speed blender. This homemade healthy slushie is a drink everyone will love.
Jump to RecipeI don't know about you but I'm so ready for warmer days to come. Lately, I've been out and about for local events and have seen a plethora of slushie trucks. These remind me of when I was a kid and used to get a slushie every opportunity I could get. Little did I know, or even care, that it was essentially shaved ice topped with high fructose corn syrup. While they were unhealthy, they were so good. Those childhood memories are what inspired this recipe.
I wanted to make a slushie that wasn't full of processed ingredients but instead would make you feel refreshed and energized afterwards. Plus if you want two servings, you don't have to feel guilty about it because it's just fresh fruit. There are no added artificial ingredients. Who doesn't love that?

Why You'll Love This Pineapple Slushie
It's Healthy - The slushie is made with juicy pineapple, water, and ice cubes. There's no high fructose syrup or any artificial ingredients. Added sugar is completely optional but not necessary. This recipe is made with ripe pineapples instead of pineapple juice. With that being said, this recipe is packed with fiber, antioxidants, and many vitamins. Enjoy this for breakfast, or as a snack on a hot day. Have more than one and not feel guilty about it.
Easy to Make - All you need is a good blender and three ingredients. Within no time you'll have a refreshing slushie. The only thing you need from the store is a pineapple. Most of the prep time spent is chopping the pineapple. It doesn't get much easier than that. It's a perfect treat for big gatherings or a busy afternoon on a wrm day.
Kid Friendly - This is a great way to get kids to eat their fruit on a warm summer day. This kid-friendly pineapple slushie is sweet and has the same icy texture that traditional slushies have. They won't be able to tell the difference.
Customizable - The one thing I love about this recipe is how basic it is. It can be used as a starter recipe that you can build upon and make your own. Get creative and add different ingredients to make it an entirely different slushie. There are so many ways to make this your own and we will get into more detail on that later.
What is a Slushie?
So what exactly is a pineapple slushy and how is it different than a smoothie? The main difference between a slushie and a smoothie is the consistency. A smoothie typically contains fruit, juice, milk, or even yogurt. Smoothies are creamy and thick much of the time. They can also be dense in calories and will keep you feeling full and satisfied after drinking them. Sometimes they're used as a meal replacement because they're packed with fruits and veggies.
Slushies on the other hand are more ice based and are typically made with fruit juice or a slushy syrup. The ice is crushed so small that the texture resembles melting snow in many ways. This recipe is considered a slushy because it's ice based it's on the thinner side. As ice is crushed in high-power blenders with water and pineapple the liquid and ice come together creating that slushy texture we all love.
The Ingredients Needed
- 3 cups Pineapple - I used fresh whole pineapple for this recipe.
- 1 1/2 cups Ice - This is very important to make the texture just right
- 1 cup Water - To help with blending
- Honey - This is completely optional for those who like a little more sweetness. If you've got a very ripe pineapple this may not be necessary
How to Make Pineapple Slushie
After the pineapple has been chopped, the cold pineapple slushie only takes one simple step to make. All you have to do is place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend on high until a smooth slushie texture appears. Serve immediately with fresh pineapple wedges or fresh mint as a garnish. Consider freezing your glass before serving to help keep the drink from melting so quickly.
Can I Use Frozen Pineapple?
Frozen fruit is a great option for this pineapple slush recipe. In fact, using 3 cups frozen pineapple will help the 3 ingredients pineapple slushie stay cold longer. I personally haven't made it with frozen fruit but I know that many recipes call for frozen fruit. Making it this way will cause the slushy texture to be thicker and it will stay cold longer. Keep in mind you may need a little more water to help the high powered blender.
Can I Use Canned Pineapple?
Technically yes you can use canned pineapple. I haven't tried this version but it is a very convenient alternative However, if you're using canned pineapple I don't recommend adding extra sweetener because a lot of time the pineapple sits in pineapple juice that's already sweetened. I will always recommend fresh pineapple over canned especially when it's in season because the flavor will be more vibrant, it will be more juicy, and overall healthier without added sugar.
Are Pineapple Slushies Healthy?
This pineapple slushie recipe is incredibly healthy for so many reasons. As mentioned earlier, this recipe is the healthy way to make a slushie using whole fruit instead of a syrup. Because of this the drink is packed with fiber, vitamin C, manganese, potassium, and helps aid in digestion. Honey is an optional ingredient meant to enhance the flavor but there are benefits to consuming honey as well. It's better than sugar or artificial sweetener and it tastes delicious. I highly recommend choosing a local honey because it can combat allergies, the seasonal flu, common cold, and it's packed with antioxidants.
