20-minute Roasted Air Fryer Parsnips are crispy, golden, and topped with parmesan and fresh herbs. A delicious, easy-to-make snack that's a perfect, healthy swap for french fries!

Wondering how to make parsnips in the air fryer? It's easier than you think! These crispy, golden bites are just like french fries—but with less oil.
Trying to incorporate veggies onto the dinner table with picky eaters can be a challenge. I've cooked with parsnips many times but air frying has become my favorite way to prepare them. Our favorite way to serve these is with Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwiches and grilled Pulehu Chicken.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
Parsnips - Choose firm parsnips without soft spots for the best results. Be sure to peel and slice long ways each in a similar size to promote even cooking. Can't find fresh parsnips in the produce area of your grocery store? Try using carrots instead.
Olive oil - Any cooking oil such as avocado oil or vegetable oil can be used. Spray oil can also be used.
Garlic powder - To enhance flavor. I recommend using garlic powder instead of fresh garlic because the fresh garlic will burn in the air fryer. Onion powder can be substituted or added in addition to the garlic powder.
Parmesan cheese - Stick with freshly grated for the best results. Asiago or romano are great toppings as well.
Fresh Herbs - Choose your favorite herbs. I love to use parsley and dill for air-fried parsnips. You can also use dried herbs like Italian seasoning which would make a great addition to the air fryer parsnips.

How to Make Parsnips in the Air Fryer
Step 1. In a large bowl add parsnips and olive oil. Stir until all the parsnips are evenly coated with the oil.
Step 2. Add salt and pepper to taste and garlic powder. Stir until well combined.
Step 3. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Step 4. Add the seasoned parsnips to the air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry at 400 degrees for 12 minutes or until golden brown on the ends. Shake the basket a few times while the parsnips are cooking.
Step 5. Return the cooked parsnips to the bowl and top with parmesan cheese and your favorite fresh herbs. Toss until well combined. Serve immediately.
Recipe Tips
Slice parsnips evenly for uniform cooking—I prefer cutting them lengthwise, but you can slice them into coins for crispy parsnip chips. Just adjust cook time based on size!
Lightly spray the air fryer pan to prevent sticking, and shake the basket occasionally for even cooking and perfect crispiness.
If using a smaller air fryer, cook in batches for crispier results. Overcrowding can make them softer, but they'll still be delicious. Larger air fryers fit one full batch!
Air Fryer Parsnip Flavor Variations
Spicy Paprika: Add some heat with a mixture of smoked paprika and cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
Curry Turmeric: Toss the parsnips with curry powder, ground turmeric, and a bit of coconut oil for a flavorful and mildly spicy option.
Parmesan Truffle: Elevate the richness by tossing air-fried parsnip fries in truffle oil instead of olive oil.

Parsnips don’t need peeling, but it helps with texture. Younger ones have tender skin, while older ones can be tougher and slightly bitter. Just scrub well if keeping the peel!
Boiling parsnips before roasting isn’t necessary, but it can help them cook faster and achieve a softer interior. If you prefer extra tender parsnips, parboil them for 3-5 minutes, then drain and air fry for a crispy, caramelized finish.
